Five Japanese shipping companies also began service to the U.S. East Coast in 1972 with YS Line's 1,620 TEU Tohbei Maru, NYK's 1,826 TEU Kurobe Maru and Kiso Maru, Mitsui OSK's 1,890 TEU New York Maru and New Jersey Maru, Japan Line's 1569 TEU Japan Ambrose and K Line's 1842 TEU Verrazano Bridge. However, these neo-bulk ships proved to be unable to compete with the other shipping companies with full container ships.

In January 2019, Lukaku appeared to be on his way to Newcastle United, but Lukaku failed his medical tests with the English club, so the intended loan move was called off. The Caribia Express and Cordillera Express were for Hapag-Lloyd, the Astronomer, Adviser for Harrison Line and the Hollandia for the KNSM. In addition to the ships of OCL, ACT and ANL, this service consisted of the 1526 TEU Melbourne Express and 1507 TEU Sydney Express of Hapag-Lloyd, the Abel Tasman of Nedlloyd, the 1490 TEU Kangourou of Compagnie des messageries maritimes (MM) and Lloyd Triestino's Lloydiana.

In June 1975 ACE (Asian Containers to/from Europe) was also started, consisting of Franco Belgian Service (FBS) – Compagnie maritime des chargeurs réunis (CMCR), Compagnie maritime belge (CMB) and Ahlers -, K Line, Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL). Between Australia and the US East Coast, ACT and ANL sailed on the Pacific America Container Express (PACE). ACT and ANL established their own service in 1972, but returned in 1977 to what became Australia New Zealand Europe Container Service (ANZECS) with the addition of New Zealand and New Zealand Shipping Corporation's New Zealand Pacific. Associated Container Transportation (ACT) was formed in 1966 by Ellerman Lines, Blue Star Line, Ben Line, Harrison Line and Port Line and with ACT 1 and ACT 2 of 1223 TEU delivered in 1969, these joined Australia Europe established in 1970 Container Services (AECS). The C6-S-85b President Jefferson, President Madison, President Pierce and President Johnson were ordered along with four ships from Farrell Lines, the C6-S-85a Austral Envoy, Austral Ensign, Austral Endurance and Austral Entente.

In 1969, Farrell would take over the entire American Racer class for this service, but it was limited to the American Rover and American Resolute which became the Austral Pilot and Austral Patriot. In later years the ACT 1, ACT 2, ACT 6, ACT 7, Australian Endeavor and Australian Venture were also added to this service. These became the Australian Galaxy, Australian Gem, Australian Gulf, Australian Isle, Australian Reef and Australian Surf. ANL brought in the Australian Enterprise which was later deployed on the AECS, while K Line deployed the Australian Searoader and Flinders deployed the Matthew Flinders. In 1973, the Caribbean Overseas Line (CAROL) was established for service between Europe and the Caribbean. Together with the five other converted C-ships – the Cecilie Mærsk, Cornelia Mærsk, Chastine Mærsk, Clara Mærsk and Olivia Mærsk – Maersk then filled the service. The first nine ships were built for what Maersk called the Panama Line, the Adrian Mærsk, Arnold Mærsk, Albert Mærsk, Anna Mærsk, Alva Mærsk, Arthur Mærsk, Axel Mærsk, Anders Mærsk and Arild Mærsk with a capacity of 1984 TEU. The Svendborg Mærsk was Maersk's first full container ship in 1974 and was intended for service between Europe and the Far East, but was the only one of its class and was initially deployed on the AECS.
